World Toilet Day Celebration

To mark November 19, the World Toilet Day, the Sulabh School Sanitation Club, organized an educational training session on November 22, 2024, in Bandipur Village, Nepal.

The workshop was attended by 40 women, including staff members, teachers, and health practitioners from the village municipality. Its purpose was to promote women’s empowerment within the community and to highlight their role in maintaining reproductive health and hygiene.

The event was honored by the presence of Mr. Surendra Bahadur Thapa, Mayor; Mr. Yadraj Aacharya, Chief Executive Officer; and Ms. Panchmaya Gurung, Vice Mayor of Bandipur Gaon Palika. They commended the initiative by the Sanitation Club and spoke at length about the pressing hygiene issues faced by the community and the importance of women’s empowerment.

The workshop opened with a discussion on key menstrual sanitation issues experienced by women in Bandipur. This dialogue highlighted the lack of access to sanitary products and the general unawareness regarding reproductive health and menstrual hygiene, particularly among women and teenagers.

Ms. Panchmaya Gurung, the Vice Mayor, also shared her thoughts, emphasizing the collaborative steps that can be taken between schools, hospitals, and the Village Municipality. She praised the efforts of the Sulabh Sanitation Club and encouraged them to extend the project to remote villages in the Gandaki provincial area.

The event created much awareness, fostered dialogue, and empowered participants to take actionable steps toward improving hygiene and health in the community.
